Wait ’til next year

EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it. The Yankees are BACK! Mariano Rivera sailed through the 9th last night protecting a razor-thin 5 run lead shrinking his ERA to a season-low 6.32. Doug Mientkiewicz was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle waking from his season-long slumber (he’s now hitting .231 and riding a one game hitting streak). Alex Rodriguez did his best Bill Laimbeer impression cleanly breaking up a sure double play on Tuesday night. That made a powerful statement! They’re simply firing on all cylinders. And it gets worse — Roger Clemens needed only 102 pitches in 5 1/3 innings surrendering a mere 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks to the AA Portland Sea Dogs last night! He’s clearly ready to make his Big League debut. I don’t need to tell you. Turn on ESPN. Fire up MLB.com. The Bombers are only two wins away from tying their season-best win streak of 3 games. A juggernaut.

Meanwhile our 31-15, wildcard aspiring Sox limp into Texas for a Friday night matchup against the Rangers clinging to a 9 1/2 game in the AL East. Dice-K will oppose the inimitable Brandon McCarthy. These are dark days in Beantown folks. Dark days indeed.
